Ben Gibbard is like me. I can't cook either, but I love to eat. Lucky for me, my roomate loves to cook. And he's good at it. It's funny because my roomate is the slowest person in the world - a true sloth. But, get him in the kitchen, and he moves like a hurricane. It's the strangest thing. I think hunger is the only thing that motivates him.
Wow, this blog is amazing! I am not worthy! Not even by a long shot. The thing is, I'm really good at some things, but cooking is NOT one of them. Mostly it is lack of ambition and intolerance for my mother's behavior that have led to my inability to feed myself. I feel it has reached a breaking point. A few weeks ago, I bought 12 Stouffer's meals! True, it only cost me 24 bucks, plus tax, but I can't keep eating this way. I really hope you continue your series of v-logs because I am desperate! As part of my encouragement, here are a set of links to more cooking how-to sites (that I should be checking out myself): Harvest Eating" VideoJug Food Recipes Home Cooking from about.com Macrobiotic Cooking And it seems you already know about Epicurious, which seems like a great site I'll have to check out again when I have more time! All in all, your blog visit has been revolutionary, no no, make that revelationary! Oh well, I guess I'll have to study grammer in the mean time as well. Grammar, dang it, grammar! Ahh...
Excellent cooking demo Alex. I've been doing pasta all wrong; not cooking the garlic & onions with the sauce; rinsing the pasta; not using salt; oh the horror!
I appreciate you mentioning your wife a few times. It's encouraging for me to see married folks acknowledge their spouses in positive ways. I think you two may like this cooking clip.
Because of you I'm making pasta tonight. I expect it will be off the hook. Ciao a tutti!
What a nice surprise in a blog post! I would have liked for the camera to be put on the pasta to show it for a while after you plated it in order to get a good look. You know, like they do it on the cooking shows on the Food Network.
I make pasta sauce somewhat similar to yours, except I add diced bell pepper to saute along with the onion and garlic in olive oil. I'm going to use some chili flakes and parsley next time. That's a good idea and I know it's going to taste good. I usually add a bit of all purpose seasoning, salt and pepper.
Adding salt to the pasta water is another thing I'm going to do next time. I use whole wheat pasta, which doesn't taste as good as regular pasta but I've gotten used to it. That way I don't have to worry about it giving me diabetes. I also like to use organic tomato paste or a combination of organic tomato paste and a can of organic crushed tomatoes for the sauce. I think it's healthier than using a prepared pasta sauce in the jar. The music at the end adds a nice touch and you get an A+.
Wow Alex...I'm impressed..as usual. I havent ever really checked out your blog too much over the semester, but as I was searching for your email, I decided to watch your pasta cooking video.

The smashing and cutting of the garlic was my favorite part!
